How We Get Field Grown Wheatgrass in a Growing Container
Gourmet Wheatgrass uses Advanced Growing Methods and procedures Our growing methods and procedures harmonize with nature on a physical, biological, and vibrational level. There are seen and unseen natural forces at play, relative to plant propagation and optimized growing conditions. Nature provides the basis of the methods we use to produce field grown quality wheatgrass in a growing container. By duplicating the conditions found in wheatgrasses' natural environment, the field, and applying those conditions to the growing containers, we can temporarily simulate that environment found in the field for the duration needed to allow the wheatgrass to mature to the jointing stage of growth. Container Grown wheatgrass is a convenient way to provide a fresh supply of nutritional wheatgrass in the comfort of your home. Visually it is a beautiful sight to behold, and the grass also produces a continuous supply of health sustaining negative electrons into the atmosphere of your home. Click here (#4) for more info.
1.THE FIELD FLAT Gourmet Wheatgrass is the innovator of the design and the application of the Field Flat. It is similar to the open mesh bottom plastic nursery flats available from nursery suppliers. However it differs in the construction, size, material, and how it is used. The Field Flat holds more potting soil and is deeper than the typical plastic nursery flat most other commercial growers of wheatgrass use. The bottom of the Field Flat is made of galvanized open mesh wire. Click Hereand here for information about the safety of using galvanized materials for growing edible foods. The sides are made from .625 x 3.50 inch pine. Field Flat Advantages 1. Prevents roots from weaving into a tight mat and becoming root bound.
a. The roots will penetrate through the bottom steel wire mesh rather than binding up in the bottom of the
flat, which would restrict the grass plant from maturing from sprout stage to jointing stage.
b. The air space below the bottom of the flat air prunes the roots which stimulate more fine feeder roots
within the flat.
c. provides a full 3.5 inches of soil depth that allows for a better root system to develop.
2. Improves drainage
a. More closely simulates a field condition
3. Can be placed on any soil surface to increase soil depth
a. The Field Flat, after being planted, can be placed on any soil surface to duplicate the unlimited soil
depth found in a field growing environment. A field flat allows the roots to grow through the open mesh
into the soil it is placed upon, thereby duplicating actual field grown conditions.
b. When its ready to harvest, simply lift it off the ground, the roots will easily detach from the ground.
4. Can be placed on top of a soil filled nursery flat to increase the soil depth.
a. The Field Flat perfectly fits inside a standard nursery flat which if were filled with potting soil would
effectively and conveniently increase the soil depth.
5. The size of the Field Flat allows a standard nursery flat to neatly fit as a drip pan to catch water as it
drains through the potting soil.
a. A non toxic pla liner is available to place in the plastic flat between the soil and the plastic. This
prevents contamination from the plastic to the soil. This item is available from the gourmet Wheatgrass
store.
b. This liner prevents any toxic plastic contamination of a plant growing in the plastic flat from toxic plastic
chemicals.
9. Same Field Flat principles can be applied to our smaller Non Plastic Growing Containers
a. Our smaller containers can also be set upon the ground or within each other to increase the soil depth.
2. NOT PRE SPROUTED I also do not pre sprout the seed before planting them. That procedure is more appropriate for hydroponically grown grass, which is far from a natural growing environment. Did you ever see mother nature pre sprout a seed before she planted it?! That's backwards. Nature first plants the seed, then it sprouts! Furthermore, the extra handling at this stage can injure the fragile root and emerging leaf, cause unnecessary stress, and interfere with the initial germination process, resulting in a less than desirable healthy maturation.
3. RETAIN LIGHT CYCLE DURRING GERMINATION Also, I believe wheatgrass and barley grass respond better without covering the seed using an artificial cover. Seed should be allowed to germinate as it happens in its natural environment. Mother nature will decide how long it takes for the seed to emerge above the soil better than we can. It will depend on the temperature, humidity, soil moisture and length of the day /night cycle. Grass seed will naturally fall off the mother plant and end up germinating in the Spring on top of the soil, slightly under or embedded into the top surface of the soil. Just keep the germinating seed from drying out. Think about how it naturally grows in the field and duplicate it for best results. The video at the bottom of the page illustrates how a wheat seed germinates using time lapse video photography. Notice the seed is on the soil surface and not buried under it, and exposed to light. Also notice the leaf stem part of the plant emerges about the same time as the roots do, lending credence to the likelihood that the sooner the plant receives light the better. 5. GROUNDING. (Earthing) The research indicates that "Earthing" transfers negatively charged free electrons into the body that are present in a virtually limitless and continuously renewed supply on the surface of the Earth. The existence of this unseen electron “reservoir” has been established by science. Maintaining contact with the ground allows your body to naturally receive and become charged with these electrons. When thus “grounded,” any electron deficiencies and free radical excesses in the body are corrected. A natural electrical state is restored.
The above statement (by others) is relative to how "Earthing" is beneficial to the human body. Plants, when connected to the earth, usually by being planted in the ground, are also effected in a similar positive way. When a plant is growing in an electrically non conductive insulated plastic pot, it is cut off from the natural flow of electrons and other vibrational energy. By restoring the connection, the plants vigor and vitality are reestablished. This is done by an actual ground rod in the ground that gets connected to the soil in the container via a copper wire, or by connecting to the ground in the electric wall socket. Gourmet Wheatgrass connects all the indoor grown plants to the earth using a ground rod that is conductively connected to each growing container. Plants grow better when planted in the ground, as opposed to a container. You can compensate for this situation by "grounding" the plant that is growing in a container, or by placing the container in the ground, as long as the container has a grounding pin or the potting soil makes good ground contact through the drainage holes. 6. MUSIC and NATURAL SOUNDS The indoor growing facility at Gourmet Wheatgrass is wired for music. The music is mellow and is played at least once a day for varying periods of time. Sounds of nature are also played, such as birds singing, a mountain brook, a breeze of air through rustling leaves, etc. All of the sounds of home sweet home! (for a plant) Click here for the results of various researchers experiments and how plants respond positively to music and pleasing sounds. 7. POWER OF POSITIVE THOUGHT When a plant is growing in the ground it is connected to its mother, Mother Earth! It is through that connection that a plant receives love. We all thrive when we receive love, and so do plants. When the connection is broken, such as in an indoor non grounded growing container, is that love lost? Maybe, maybe not! I would say it is at least diminished. People with a green thumb are the type who pamper their plants and put out positive vibrations of appreciation, compassion, and love. Sort of the plants surrogate mother. The plants connect to these people and return those same vibrations and more back. Every plant grown by Gourmet Wheatgrass is perceived as a living being, with conscious intelligence. Since the plants life is dependent on Gourmet Wheatgrass for its survival, we take that job seriously, and provide all elements that promote good health, in mind, body, and spirit. 8. LIVE GRASS in a FIELD FLAT ACTUAL FIELD GROWN CONDITIONS IN A PORTABLE FLAT Gourmet wheatgrass provides live grass in a Field Flat and the smaller "PLA" containers for local delivery to resellers and residences. Gourmet Wheatgrass is the innovator of the Field Flat. The Field Flat produces live grass with absolute field grown quality. The Field Flat enables wheatgrass to grow beyond the sprouting stage of growth to the jointing stage of growth, in a portable growing container. Our "PLA" containers can also be adapted as a field grown container. The outside dimensions are the same size of a conventional plastic nursery flat, only much deeper, 10.625 x 14.750 x 3.50 inches. The bottom of the Field Flat is an open mesh galvanized steel wire. The sides are made of 5/8" x 3 -1/2" pine. These materials are non toxic and food safe for growing plants that are edible. This product is custom made by gourmet wheatgrass, and is available in the online Gourmet Wheatgrass store.
Sunlight Wheatgrass and Barleygrass love the sun. Give it all it can handle. It naturally grows in a field, there is no shade in a field! If the grass is drying out before you can water it, position it so it gets a little less sun, or set up an automatic watering system. Sun is the life blood of a sun loving plant, if you minimize that you minimize its overall health. Don't compromise, optimize! Therapeutic use of wheatgrass If you are growing Wheatgrass or Barleygrass to treat a disease or ill health, it would be prudent to consider how you can maximize the nutritional value of the grass before you harvest it. You can grow your grass in an outdoor garden, directly in the soil, or you can plant it in large, deep, clay pots. Top soil mixed with compost works well. If you are buying live wheatgrass that was grown by the hydroponic method, or in a standard size plastic nursery flat, that grass is being harvested well prior to the true jointing stage of growth, and has not reached its peak of nutrition. These methods of growing wheat grass can not physically support the grass long enough to mature to the peak nutrition jointing stage. You need a deep soil depth to achieve peak nutrition. Consider using the deep soil non toxic containers provided by Gourmet Wheatgrass or other suitable containers.
